Home Business Online What To Do-Not to Do…

Here are a few tips on what to do and what not to do when starting up a home business online. These are all based on personal experience of trial and error. Keep in mind that opinions vary from marketer to marketer and there are many different strategies that can be used for your success. Figure out first of all what is going to be your primary business, whether it’s affiliate marketing, or selling your own product

Home Business Online – What to Do

1. Organize yourself. This is something I learned to do the hard way. I found that things can get cluttered and confusing real quick if you don’t take the time to organize your files and email, etc..

Use Microsoft Excel template to record daily what you are doing, and also to keep track of keywords and  passwords. If you don’t have Excel, you can use OpenOffice.org or LibreOffice.org. These programs are free to download and to use and work just as well as the Microsoft office.

2. Subscribe to only one or two Internet marketers email reports for information and tips. Research a couple of marketers who have a good reputation and then follow them. If you sign up to too many of these guys you’ll be overwhelmed and frustrated. I personally follow Sean Donahoe, simply because his methods and strategies gave me results.

3. Use WordPress for your website, go to this page to see step by step instructions on how to set it up in minutes. WordPress is easy to use and search engine friendly as well.

4. If you are not sure what to promote or sell, think about what you are interested in or maybe an expert in. For example, if you are a mechanic, create a site based on that particular niche put lots of relevant content on your site and then promote products based on that niche.

5. Learn the importance of keyword research for your home business online. Target focused keywords to your website means traffic to your website. No traffic = no income. As an example, let’s use the “mechanic” theme again. You could write a simple “how to” ebook on changing oil filters, or break pads as example. Your target keywords will be exactly what you write about, such as “changing break pads or “how to change break pads”. High volume searched keywords with low competition are what you are looking for. Use this keyword tool from Google to find out the best keyword phrases to use and look for high volume searched phrases with low competition.

What Not To Do With Your Home Business Online

Here are a few tips on what not to do with your new home business online.

1. Don’t be a content farmer meaning copy other website’s content. Always write your own content especially if you want search engines to rank your website. Using other website articles as reference is fine but never use word for word others content, it will only lead to a whole mess of trouble you do no not want.

2. Don’t buy every product you see such as so called”traffic generators” or “push button profit” programs that promise you you’ll make money with only a few clicks of the mouse. There is no such thing as these. A good solid business that is successful takes time to build and there are no easy push button money miracles out there. Most of those programs that are being sold will hurt your business in the long run.

3. Don’t spam people. This basically means, do not buy mailing lists, or submit your website to spammy directories. Once your site is blacklisted as a spam site it is very hard to get white-listed again. It’s always better to play by the rules and build a solid reputation as a trusted authority than to play the shortcuts and risk getting banned from everything.

4. Don’t put all your traffic source “eggs” in one basket. Yes, Google is #1 in search engine traffic and should never be ignored, but also get your traffic from social networks such as Twitter and Facebook as well as the thousands of directories and other sources available out there. Relying on Google solely is dangerous as many marketers will tell you. Always diversify your traffic resources.

5. Most important thing to remember with your new home business online is never give up. You can run an online business on less than $50 per month. Even if you make no money the first year, it is the cheapest way to start a business and it won’t break your bank account. Like any business you will have times of triumph and times where you hit the wall with challenges, and it can be very frustrating at times because you will have self doubt, you will contemplate quitting and you will need to adapt to changes that are business driven that you cannot ignore.

The fact is, most new businesses online end up failing because they gave up early because their expectations were unrealistic or simply they could not overcome challenges. Some do become successful and only a few become millionaires. Staying focused on your goals is key but I’m a true believer that in this business having a mentor, someone who you can follow in their footsteps is key to success. Seek out and find an online marketer who is successful and learn what they know. I personally follow Sean Donahoe as my mentor simply because what I’ve learned through his strategies simply works. Start making money with your new home business online.
